Writing a Visual Concept
Typographic Storytelling in Manhattan skyline
An intimate private event for a gallerist in New York became the ground for a visual experiment. It all began with this frame words turned into bold, expressive typography printed over digitally layered scans of my hand-painted artworks.
I painted the background with acrylic on simple smooth papers in my studio Then took these babies to be scanned in the best art-high resolution scanners. I combined the bold typographic on the top layer with digital adobe CC apps and this was the base that defined the space’s visual rhythm.
The resulting graphics shaped the entire design direction: From wall prints to , textile pieces, custom table maps, A dance floor huge print, menus, seat cards, branded gift, tote bags, sweatshirts and more.. A black-and-white photobooth corner echoed the typographic style in a minimal variation.
Neon lights, inspired by phrases from the original text, lit up the windows with layered meaning.
The space itself, narrow, elongated, and perched high above Manhattan, called for clarity and intention. Though visually rich, the elements were curated to stay precise, emotionally charged, and cohesive.
This was not just an event design. It was a spatial essay, abstract art combined with graphic designed.
The event was produced by the one and only Tali Yaacobi. Her team worked in close collaboration with me and managed to execute the design in less than a month, under the tight timeline of New Year’s celebrations in New York.
